Ritchie Ellis creates one-of-a-kind objects that begin with the natural characteristics of the material: grain, figure, voids, live edges, color shifts, and structural features.
Rather than erase those qualities, the work uses them as compositional elements. Resin becomes a way to preserve negative space, introduce transparency and color, and build relationships between natural and constructed forms.
No two pieces are alike because no two pieces of wood carry exactly the same grain, shape, voids, edges, or history.
The practice ranges from functional furniture to turned vessels and sculptural objects, with each piece shaped individually rather than reproduced from a fixed template. Individual turned pieces can require more than 60 hours of focused work from casting through final finish.
Craftsmanship without sameness.
The goal is not perfect repetition. It is a finished object that feels resolved while still carrying the evidence of the original material and the process used to transform it.
